SDW/EG is a group of writers and editors dedicated to improving their skills
and helping others do the same. The guild was founded in 1979 as a non-profit
and is believed to be the oldest writers organization in the region.
National Writers Union
NWU is the trade union for freelance and contract writers: journalists, book
authors, business and technical writers, web content providers, and poets.
With the combined strength of 3,500 members in 17 local chapters nationwide,
and with the support of the United Automobile Workers (UAW), the Union works
to defend the rights and improve the economic and working conditions of all
writers.

The Independent Writers of Southern California is a group for professional,
self-employed writers. The organization focuses on the business of writing,
holds meetings, publishes a newsletter, and maintains a job referral service.
